Welcome to the Brink Elementary Library!

Brink Elementary is located in scenic Brunitt, Mississippi, a close-knit community famous for its annual Pecan Festival. The campus is about 15 miles northeast of the capital, Jackson. The Brink Elementary Library exists to advance academic achievement, foster a love of reading, and keep kids safe while they learn to use, create, and share information independently and ethically. As of the 2023-24 school year, the library serves 1023 student patrons in grades K-12 and 88 faculty members. Of these, 36.1% identified as Black or African American; 56.1% identified as White, and 5.1% were two or more races. The Brink Elementary library is a 21-st century library with a collection of over 18,000 print and multimedia resources, arts and crafts, two “read and ride” bikes, maker spaces, tabletop games, a 3D printer, Oculus VR goggles, a 1000-piece puzzle always in progress, and more. The library is the heart of Brink Elementary hosting activities and services throughout the year for the entire community. During the school year, students can participate in activities including, but not limited to, Brunitt Battle of the Books, monthly book clubs, origami hour, and creating video book reviews. In the summer, the library provides reading challenges. Parents are invited to attend Book Fair, Parent book club, Family Night, and other events. This commitment to the development of the whole child has made Brink Elementary a National Blue Ribbon School for five years running. Go Bears!

OUR MISSION

The mission of Brink Elementary Library is to create a safe, inviting space where students can discover their interests, cultivate curiosity, and become lifelong learners. We accomplish this by connecting students and staff with the diverse physical and digital resources required to practice critical thinking skills. Our lessons guide students in using those resources through the lens of responsible citizenship.

OUR objectives

The objectives of the library are:

  • To teach lessons on how to access, evaluate, and use information wisely and ethically.
  • To develop, manage, and evaluate a collection with a wide range of issues and viewpoints that promotes the proliferation of ideas and critical thinking.
  • To provide equitable access to technologies and share innovations.
  • To integrate the library  program with curriculum goals through collaboration, planning, implementation, and assessment of learning with all members of the school community.
  • To create an inviting, flexible, user-friendly space for campus and community gatherings such as faculty meetings, professional development, campus celebrations, and Trivia Night.
  • To involve the community in promoting a culture of reading for pleasure and enlightenment by hosting book fairs, author visits, book drives, reading incentive plans, book tournaments, district book adoptions, and language acquisition programs.
